April 22, is one of the Earth Days celebrated mostly in USA. It was introduced in 1969 by Seattle Senator Gaylord Nelson as a special day to create awareness of environmental problems. Almost 40 years ago, he was one of the first politicians to start worrying about ecology.
The other Earth Day, introduced by John McConnell of UNESCO in 1970 is celebrated on the Spring Equinox, know as Ostara to Wiccans and Neo-pagans, and occurs around March 20.
There is no common conception of what is to be done on the Earth Day. The most active social layer is usually students and green activists. They hold their meetings, hand out leaflets and gather to give certain places a good spring cleaning.
Although there are no records of how the Earth Day affects people minds and it is questionable if it creates enough awareness, yet in the situation of global warming and other environmental threats, each time somebody tries to make a difference is very valuable.
Stop for a moment and think, what you can do to make the environmental threat diminish. For green economy ideas click here.
